Enjoy your private Tour from Bucharest to Brasov and Sibiu: Situated in the heart of Romania, at the crossroads of all roads, Brasov is the city that attracts most tourists every single year. Here, life is simple, full of color, taste and aroma, one can really relax and enjoy the fresh montain air.
Brasov is lucky to have a tourist season all year round and is one of the few places in Romania where you can enjoy being on vacation regardless of the weather. Here you have everything you may want: the coolness of the mountains, the well-maintained beauty of the medieval buildings and monuments, the comfort of the accommodation, the hospitality of the restaurants, the variety and the abundance of shopping.
Established by the Teutonic Knights in 1211 and became one of Transylvania’s most important economic and cultural urban centers due to its location and good connections with Wallachia and Moldova. Over the years there have been numerous buildings that have become, in time, monuments and tourist attractions.
Brasov wasn’t always the name of the city. For a period of 10 years, between 1950 and 1960, Brasov was named “the Stalin City”, becoming the capital of the Stalin Region, which included the cities of Odorhei, Miercurea Ciuc and St. George.
The Council Square can be considered Point Zero of Brasov. It is the most visited place in the city and here come over 1 million tourists each year. It is also the heart of the city and the place from where all the road distances to all corners of the country are measured.
In the Council Square there used to be the Pillar of Infamy, where witches were judged and public corporal punishments were committed for various offenses.
Originally built as a watchtower, the building known today as the “House of the Council” (one of the city’s symbols) was transformed into a town hall as the city grew. Today, the edifice hosts two major objectives: the County Museum of History (1950) and the Tourist Information Center (2005).
The Weavers Bastion is one of the seven towers built around Brasov, in order to protect the city from invaders. It is also one of the best preserved and nowadays it sometimes hosts concerts and medieval shows.
The Black Church is perhaps the most famous and photographed building in Brasov, the largest Gothic edifice in Southeastern Europe and the most representative monument of Gothic architecture in Romania, dating back to the 14th century. The church can house around 5,000 people. It has the largest bell (6 tons) of Romanian and the largest organ (4,000 tubes) in Southeastern Europe.
Tampa is a mountain belonging to the Postavaru Mountain Cain. The maximum height reached is 960 meters, almost at 400 meters above the city. Much of Tampa is set up as a natural reserve. The Tampa Nature Reserve is the only one in the world in the center of a city.
Tourists can climb to Mount Tampa on foot, if they want to have a walk through the forest or using the Cable Car that conects the city to the mountain. A journey with the Cable Car takes less than 3 minutes, depending on the weather conditions and covers a ground of 573 meters.
On the other hand, some say that the journey on foot is much more beautiful and worth the effort. If you decide to climb the mountain on foot, you will descover on one alley, among the wooden benches, a small stone-dug bank. It is said that this cliff has rolled from above, burying beneath it two lovers who were hugged in that place.
There are many reasons to visit Sibiu, a diverse and interesting city with many activities and tourist attractions. First of all, Sibiu is a medieval town with a history of 900 years, having lots of interesting things that await for you to discover. Baron Samuel von Brukenthal builds a late Baroque palace in the years 1777 – 1787, similar to the Viennese palaces. The building was to become the headquarters of the Brukenthal Museum, the first museum in Romania and this part of Europe. The museum was formed around the baron’s collections, which were made up of a pinnacle, a stamp office, a library, and a numismatic collection. After that, the von Brukenthal family began to buy paintings, helping to expand the collection. The museum was opened to the public in 1817, and today it is a highly appreciated museum.
Situated between the most important two squares of the city, more precisely at the northeast corner of the Great Market, the Council Tower was always the main symbol of Sibiu. The tower’s name comes from the defensive function on the entrance gate to the second fortification enclosure, located in the immediate vicinity of the building that housed Sibiu City Hall, mentioned in documentary in 1324.
The outdoor museum in Dumbrava Forest, very close to Sibiu, presents the synthesis of the traditional folk civilization on the territory of Romania, being one of the most important institutions of its kind in Europe, both through the cultural heritage represented here and by the cultural and educational programs it develops.
In 1929 the first zoo in Romania was opened to the public in Dumbrava Forest. The first animals housed by the Sibiu Zoo came here by donations. Since 2005, the Zoological Garden entered the administration of the Sibiu City Hall and since then over 10.000.000 lei have been invested for the comfort of over 250 animals from over 50 species housed today by the Sibiu Zoo.
After being an European Capital of Culture in 2007, Sibiu is known in 2019 as European Gastronomic Region. If love passes through the stomach, the menu of restaurants in Sibiu will surely conquer you. The ingredient of the local cuisine is the multicultural mosaic. The Romanian, Saxon, Hungarian and Jewish flavors combine into a plate in a surprising Transylvanian fusion.
From Sibiu you can easily explore two reserves and 7 natural parks located near the city, as well as Paltinis, the oldest in Romania.
